We love our clients. Truly.
But after years in professional web design and SEO, we’ve heard some things.
Not bad things.
Just… adorably misunderstood things.
So in the spirit of education, humor, and gentle self-reflection (mostly on everyone else), here are some of the most common—and entertaining—things web designers hear on a regular basis.
If you recognize yourself in one or two of these… congratulations. You’re normal.
“Why does web design cost so much? My nephew who took a coding class said he’d build it for $500.”
First of all, shoutout to your nephew. We love ambition.
Second—this is a bit like saying:
“Why hire an architect? I built a birdhouse in 2007.”
Professional web design isn’t just “building it out.” It’s:
- Design talent & creative skill
- Strategy
- UX & conversion psychology
- Mobile optimization
- Accessibility
- SEO foundations
- Performance & security
- Branding
- And yes… some actual code
Your nephew might build you a website.
A professional builds you a masterpiece business tool that works while you sleep.
“It’s been a month of SEO. Why aren’t I #1 on Google yet?”
Ah yes. The magical 30-day SEO glow-up.
SEO is not a microwave—it’s a slow cooker.
It takes time for Google to:
- Crawl your site
- Understand your content
- Trust your authority
- Compare you against competitors who’ve been at this for years
If someone promises instant #1 rankings, they’re either:
- Lying
- Cutting corners
- About to get your site penalized
- Or all of the above
Good SEO compounds.
Bad SEO disappears (or explodes).
“Here’s my logo. I made it in Microsoft Word.”
We love creativity.
We do not love rasterized clip art stretched into oblivion.
A professional logo needs to:
- Scale cleanly
- Work in color and black & white
- Look good on screens, print, merch, signs, and vehicles
- Match your brand personality
If your logo only exists as a blurry JPG named logo_final_FINAL2_revised.png…
We should probably talk.
(And yes—we do logo design too. For exactly this reason.)
“Can you just make it pop?”
We absolutely can.
But first…
What does pop mean to you?
Because “pop” could mean:
- Brighter colors
- Better contrast
- Clearer messaging
- Stronger calls to action
- Improved layout hierarchy
- Or simply less beige
Design is subjective—but good design is intentional.
We’ll help translate vibes into actual strategy.
“I want it to look like Apple… but my budget is not Apple.”
Totally fair. Most budgets are not Apple budgets.
The goal isn’t to be Apple—it’s to:
- Look polished
- Feel credible
- Function smoothly
- Match your audience
You don’t need a billion-dollar brand.
You need a website that makes people trust you within 5 seconds.
That’s doable. Promise.
“Can we just add this one more thing?”
Yes.
And then another one.
And then another one.
Suddenly your clean homepage is:
- 14 CTAs
- 9 fonts
- 6 animations
- And a slideshow that refuses to die
Good websites don’t say everything.
They say the right things, in the right order, to the right people.
Sometimes less isn’t boring—it’s effective.
“I just need a simple website.”
This is our favorite sentence.
Because “simple” usually means:
- Easy to use
- Clear messaging
- Fast load times
- Strong branding
- SEO-friendly
- Mobile-optimized
- Conversion-focused
Ironically, simple done well is hard.
That’s why professionals exist.
The Takeaway (We Promise We’re Not Judging)
If any of these sound familiar—don’t worry.
You’re not wrong. You’re just not a web designer.
And that’s okay.
Our job isn’t to roll our eyes (even if we sometimes do internally).
Our job is to guide, educate, and build something that actually works.
So if you’re ready for:
- A website that doesn’t look homemade
- SEO that’s done the right way
- Branding that scales beyond Microsoft Word
We’re here.
And yes—we’ll even help your nephew understand why this stuff matters 😉
